Successful completion of this class qualifies you to apply for the Arizona Concealed Carry Weapons Permit. This permit allows you to discreetly and privately carry a firearm that is hidden from view of the casual observer.
Carrying a firearm without a permit is legal in Arizona. However, you must carry your firearm in the open or in plain view of the “casual observer”. This is not a practical or preferred method of carry for personal protection. It is illegal to hide your firearm from the casual observer without first obtaining the concealed carry weapons permit.
What Are the Steps for Obtaining A Concealed Carry Weapons Permit ( CCW)?
Step 1 - Determine if you are eligible to apply.
You must:
be a resident of Arizona or a United States Citizen
be 21 years of age or older
not be under indictment of a felony offense
not be convicted of a federal offense
not be suffering from mental illness
not be unlawfully present in the United States
There are also state and federal “prohibitors” that can disqualify you from obtaining a CCW permit. Click on these links to review these prohibitors. Arizona State Prohibitors Federal Prohibitors
Step 2 - Take a DPS-Approved firearms safety class from Force Training Systems.
We provide an approved CCW training course. The course is 8 hours in length and taught by our CWPU authorized instructor.
The class covers all of the legal issues surrounding the use of a firearm.
You will take a written test and qualify with a handgun firing live ammunition.
During the course you will be fingerprinted, and receive all of the necessary paperwork to obtain your CCW permit.
Step 3 - Submit your CCW permit application documents to the Arizona Department of Public Safety CCW Unit.
You will receive an envelope, two fingerprint cards, and an application.
Mail these documents with the appropriate fees to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and wait for your permit to arrive.
How Much Does the Class Cost?
The fee for a CCW class is $100.00 per student. However, each registrant will receive a coupon via email, allowing them to register one additional female guest for free.
